"iThemba Labanqobayo" - Hope for Survivors

The iThemba rape and trauma support centre offers comprehensive care for the survivors of traumatic events, as well as their family and friends. This care includes counseling, treatment for physical trauma, prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and the careful gathering of forensic evidence.

Sometimes we are exposed to events that provoke feelings of fear, helplessness or horror. These events can include assaults, vehicle accidents or hi-jacking's. After the event the survivor is often left with feelings and sensations that are hard to understand and make sense of.

At iThemba we believe knowledge is power and that knowing what you are experiencing, can go a long way in reducing uncertainty and the accompanying fear. Just by knowing that you are reacting in a normal manner to an abnormal event, is already a big help in managing the effect that the event is having on your life and relationships.
